Deontay Wilder has exercised his option for a third fight with Tyson Fury, but the Brit has been bet to an even larger favorite than he opened, per odds in Las Vegas,.
Early money is on Tyson Fury for his upcoming trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder, as the Gypsy King has been bet from an opener of -250 to -310 on the Westgate SuperBook’s oddsboard.
After being knocked down twice and stopped in the seventh round by Fury last month in their second fight, Wilder exercised his option for an immediate third bout. Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, Fury’s co-promoter, [told ESPN](https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/28817407/deontay-wilder-exercises-right-trilogy-fight-tyson-fury-july-18) that the plan is for the event to take place July 18 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the same venue as the second fight between the heavyweights.
Shortly after Fury’s dominant performance in February, the Westgate [opened](https://twitter.com/golfodds/status/1231981948760805377) betting on a potential third fight, installing Fury as the solid favorite. The -250 opening number (bet $250 to win $100), though, looked cheap to early-to-the-window bettors, who have pushed Fury to even larger chalk of -300 as of Monday.
Wilder’s odds have lengthened from +200 to +250 in the first week of wagering.
Unless there’s a drastic move between now and July, Fury-Wilder 3 will mark the first time the Brit will be favored over the American. Wilder was a [-160 favorite in the first go-round](https://www.betchicago.com/deontay-wilder-tyson-fury-fight-odds-betting-sharps), in December 2018 when the two battled to a draw in Los Angeles; in the rematch, Wilder opened the short underdog but was [bet to the favorite](https://www.betchicago.com/wilder-fury-betting-odds-strategy-props) in the -125 to -140 range by fight night.
The betting market’s emphatic move toward Fury is logical, considering his recent dismantling of Wilder. But the 5/2 odds on Wilder are enticing. Wilder knocked Fury down twice in their first fight, the latter barely getting up in the 12th round, and as Arum alluded to, boxing is unpredictable.
"I figured (Wilder would exercise the third-fight option),” Arum said. “I have had enough experience with rematches to know that anything can happen and guys can change their strategy and want the opportunity to (avenge) the loss."
