Odds have been released for the MLB All-Star Game MVP on Tuesday night in Cleveland and Cubs’ shortstop Javier Baez is an intriguing betting option. Baez opened as a 20/1 bet at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas on Sunday. Angels’ superstar center fielder Mike Trout, Dodgers' star Cody Bellinger and Milwaukee’s outfielder Christian Yelich opened as the co-favorites at 12/1. However, Yelich’s availability could be in question. Sunday, he withdrew from Monday’s Home Run Debry because of a back [issue](https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2019-home-run-derby-christian-yelich-out-with-injury-matt-chapman-added-to-field/). His odds were quickly adjusted to 20/1 to win the MVP. Trout and Bellinger's odds were adjusted to 10/1. Of course, even the favorites have relatively high odds in All-Star games because most players only get one or two at-bats. So, the MVP of the Midsummer Classic is often a player who hits a big home run or comes up the game-winning hit. It’s a bit of a crapshoot. Baez is as good as any choice and, at 20/1, why not? Baez, who started last year’s All-Star game at second base and is the third player in [history](https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cubs/ct-cubs-javier-baez-willson-contreras-20190628-k5hc3qysvbg7xifbu6razb23qi-story.html) to start the game at both shortstop and second base, can change a game. He is hitting .289 with 22 home runs and 62 RBI. Cubs’ catcher Willson Contreras is also starting Tuesday. His MVP odds are 30/1. Cubs’ third baseman Kris Bryant is a reserve. His odds are 40/1. The White Sox will also have three representatives in Cleveland, but none are starting. First baseman Jose Abreu is 50/1, catcher James McCann is 60/1. Pitcher Luis Giolito, who could pitch fairly early in the game, is not priced by the Westgate. Only a few pitchers in the game have odds set. The reason? Perhaps because only two pitchers in the past 20 years – Pedro Martinez (1999) and Mariano Rivera (2013) -- have been named the All-Star MVP.
