No resolution in sight for Sammy Sosa's fractured relationship with Cubs

No resolution in sight for Sammy Sosa's fractured relationship with Cubs

Sammy Sosa has been making the press rounds, discussing (albeit evasively) his performance-enhancing drug use (or lack thereof), his lighter skin tone and his feelings about the Cubs.

It may be hard for non-Millennials to believe, but Sammy Sosa's last game with the Cubs was nearly 14 years ago. For reasons that are unclear, the soon-to-be 50-year-old has been making the press rounds the last few weeks, discussing (albeit evasively) his performance-enhancing drug use (or lack thereof), his [lighter skin tone](https://www.google.com/search?q=sammy+sosa+complexion&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjrpMb6jf7bAhUSoFMKHcw4BfcQ_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=671) and his feelings about the Cubs organization. The most damning quote about the Cubs came [via Sports Illustrated](https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/06/27/sammy-sosa-cubs-dubai-steroids-mark-mcgwire) (and some single malt Scotch) in the magazine's annual "Where Are They Now?" issue (Sosa was in Dubai, if you're wondering). "I passed Ernie Banks for most home runs in Chicago Cubs history," Sosa told SI. "He has a statue, and I don’t have nothing. So, what the f—?" The Ricketts family -- namely team chairman Tom Ricketts -- wants Sosa to admit taking PEDs and apologize for it before they invite him back to Wrigley Field. The family purchased the Cubs in 2009, five years after Sosa was traded to the Orioles. The Ricketts nearly got what they want in 2014, as the Dominican government intervened and persuaded Cubs employees to meet with Sosa, according to SI. But an apology never came to fruition. "According to the source, Sosa agreed that he would issue an apology -- that is, something to acknowledge malfeasance, but short of a total confession," the SI report stated. "The next day, Sosa backed out." That brings us to the interview that aired Sunday morning on [E:60](http://www.espn.com/watch/collections/20/e-60), during which Sosa said he would consider a Cubs homecoming if he was invited. But the problem from the Cubs' perspective remains that Sosa won't cop to taking PEDs. He told interviewer Jeremy Schaap he "never tested positive in this country," even though [The New York Times reported in 2009](https://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/17/sports/baseball/17doping.html?ref=sports) that he did in 2003. Embedded content: https://twitter.com/E60/status/1012681425651412993 Sosa repeatedly tried to get Schaap to change the subject from PEDs until finally cutting him off and taking a break from the interview. So it appears things will remain at a standstill between the Cubs and Sosa for the time being. When he eventually returned to the interview, Sosa discussed his much-talked-about lighter complexion, saying the reason he's lighter is because of facial lotion, which he uses "because he likes to have his skin clean." "For me, I do what Sammy Sosa wants to do," he added in response to so many people talking about the tone of his skin on social media. "It's my life ... I'm entitled in my life to do whatever I want."

As legalized sports betting expands, so too are the wagering options available to gamblers. Sportsbooks are getting more and more creative in what they’re posting on their oddsboards. While traditional pre-event bets – such as point spreads, moneylines and totals – remain popular, live betting is become a larger part of the sports betting experience. Also, prop bets aren’t just for the Super Bowl anymore. In fact, there are props to wager on for practically any sporting event around the world.

Whether it’s on the NFL, college football, MLB, NBA, NCAA basketball, NHL, soccer, NASCAR, UFC, boxing, horse racing, tennis, entertainment or eSports, it’s difficult to win long term betting on sports. That’s why it’s important to read up on the news that impacts the markets, dig deep into advanced statistics and hear from oddsmakers about how and why lines are moving.

Here at BetChicago, we follow sports betting from a national and even international perspective, but we put a special emphasis on Chicago, Illinois and the Midwest region.
